The Argentine ant or the Linepithema humile, (formerly Iridomyrmex humilis) is commonly found in Uruguay, North America, Paraguay and Brazil. However, they now have spread to many other areas including South America, Australia, etc. these light-brown creatures are found in most of the homes in America. As the name suggests Argentine ants are natives of Argentina. However, they were transported to different areas through coffee ships before 1891.

However, they are a threat to the crops also to air conditioners, heaters, telephone box, heat pumps, traffic lights, etc. these are considered to be one of the most damaging pests’ in the world which are slowly spreading to the warmer regions.

Characteristics

Workers are of the same size, i.e., 1/12 to 1/8 inch long. However, the queen is 1/6 to 1/4 inch long.
